For Centries the bark of a tropical tree (Richeria Grandis) found in the mountains of <strong>Grenada</strong>, Trinidad and other isles in the Windward island chain is said to have the properties of an aphrodisiac, to the locals this tree is called Boís Bande.

The locals are hip to this phenomenon and prefer to keep it to themselves. I remember as a child growing up in Grenada the elderly folks looked at the idea of taking Bois Bande or talking about it as a no no. There are stories that men who used bois bande ended up with erections that landed them in hospital.
I have a typical example where at the age of seventeen I use to boil and bottle the bois bande to supply to people and my dad found out which drove him mad. He found out that it was stored under my bed he took the whole lot and dumped it telling me i am too young to be wanting to use this stuff.
Today you’ll find bark stripped off of forest trees and the roots collected to make a potion infused tea, or of course suspended in rum, usually overproof rum at that.
The bark and the root (which is sometimes locally called mountain spices) is frequently mixed with other herbs and spices and made into rum or a local wine. In lieu of foraging for it in the wild, Boís Bande can be found on the shelves of the Rum Shops in Grenada. <strong></strong> Recently a new Bois Bande product was introduced on the island by a company called Antoine De Beaureguard called Woodman Rum.

Goji berries may also interact with diabetes and blood pressure drugs, also if you suffer from Hay fever you may want to avoid this super berry.

Living With Type2 Diabetese

In a family of four being the only Diabetic,. creating a special Menu and food plan could be difficult.
Eating the correct foods to ensure my blood sugar levels are controlled is of high priority to me. I do my best to keep a good food plan to control my condition but as the only one suffering from the condition you do not want to seem to force your meal plan on the rest of the household.
My meals are mainly vegetables based, some of the vegetables I use are broccoli , pumpkin, squash, spinach and plum tomatoes. Also included are different peas and beans. I use mainly grilled or baked meats
In addition to my medication I combine light physical training and Herbs . Most of the herbs used are natural herbs from Grenada. I usually get my family out in Grenada to harvest the herbs fresh and sun dry them and send it to me, the herbs are used to make tea.
By doing this my blood sugar levels are considerable controlled. Last June I went to Grenada on holiday and forget to carry my medication with me. During my two weeks vacation I was able to control my sugar levels by using the fresh herbs to make tea at least twice daily.
Some of the herbs used are known locally as Shadow Benny,Black Sage and Zeber Picque. Also combined with the herbs are spices such as Cinnamon and cloves. Using Sorrel as a Tea was recommended to me and a beverage made from the bark of a tree called Mauby is said to be a good drink for diabetics.
